The Magi and She

She went to him to know the cause of her illness.
"What ails your heart?", he asked feeling her pulse.
"Nothing", she replied.
He lifted her chin and looked deep into her eyes. She flinched a bit.
"I guess, i know." He answered in a discerning voice.
"What?" She asked getting curious.
"Nothing." He replied.

P.S. It doesn't strictly fall into the category of  55 fiction except in word limit. So, please don't judge it on the same parameters, just read it and enjoy.

One of the few things I don't understand in this life and complex words like Nothing.

Unknown!!! said...

why not?..it definitely qualifies under the 55er..
if I have to write the same thing..i might take at least 100 words :)

Lets just leave the judgement to the judges, I love to read for the fun of reading it and won't count the words.

Ah and 'nothing' is really an interesting word, gives mixed emotions.

Nice one!

One of the most complex words and which has so many meaning depending on the situation.. But then also means the same in different situations .. NOTHING .. the cruel word the good word ...

@ Unknown,
Thanks!

@ Vivek,
Thanks!

@ Compassion Unlimited,
True :)

Sh@s said...

@ The Chair Speaks,
You are right. At times its best left unsaid.

Sh@s said...

@ Blasphemous Aesthete,
Thanks! Ya, its so ambiguous at times.

Sh@s said...

@ Bikramjit,
Right. Ambiguity of the word makes it although more, more complex and open to various interpretations.

nice but begs for completion.

This was simple, yet powerful expressions of feelings.

if it is 55 fiction, and u have doubts, then dont have!

hmmm...it leaves me to interpret...if it lieterally nothing and it is all in her head...or....nice 55...

I so hate the word "nothing" and the phrase "I don't know!" specially when I am talking about something serious, very very serious.

Anyway, I would not like myself to deal with the power of "nothing!" ;)

Beautifully written, masterji. :)

@ Sid,
Thanks for such a sweet request. But this has put me in a dilemma coz this was just a piece of conversation actually a thought which i turned it into a conversation. Well, there is no ending as such but there maybe few more such conversations in the future probably which may help you draw a conclusion or make some sense out of it but there won't be an 'ending' to it.

Sh@s said...

@ Restless Mind,
Thanks for your comment and for putting my doubts to rest :)

Sh@s said...

@ Brian Miller,
Thanks for your interpretation. It can be read in various ways depending on how one wants to see it and one can conclude differently at each reading.

Sh@s said...

@ Ajit Srivastava,
Thanks for your comment. Ya, it can be very irritating as it is evasive n confusing though the person would say nothing one knows deep down one's heart that there is lots deep down.

Sh@s said...

@ Sunil,
Thank you, Ustadji :)
Happy to see you here after ages.

In the arithmetic of love, one plus one equals everything, and two minus one equals nothing.

Interesting ..

Sh@s said...

@ Mag(m),
Hmm....is my writing that complex ?
Just nudge your brain a bit and you will be there :)

Nothing usually comes with a lot of things. When someone says 'Nothing', it's almost like hitting the dead end, only with a longer way to go.

ah 55 fiction or not, I love it :-)

Saibal Barman said...

It ran more like a monologue...a self-thought..than a discourse; and it makes a great impact..I loved the concept and how nicely it's expressed.

@ Purple Heart,
Thanks! Ya, its almost a dead end at times but a bit of digging may lead one to what lies beneath it.

Sh@s said...

@ vimmuuu,
Thanks for such a funny comment! You may be right :p
