Child-woman

Nestled in your lap
With a child-like eagerness
She watches your mouth
To sprout words.
The moment
It pops out any
She plucks and gathers them quickly
Creating a mental log.

Your words
She twists and turns
Molds and re-molds
Derives meanings she desires
At times amusing
At times annoying.

Hurls them back at you
Playfully or when hurt
You yell at her,
“That’s not what I meant”.
Numbed by the sharpness
She sits still and cries.
With the remains of your words
Nestled in her lap
Like a broken doll
Beyond repair.

P.S. When a girl grows up into a woman, her playmate changes. She searches for a glimpse of her old playmate in the new one. She never quite grows up, the child within her stays alive and she continues with her games but the memories of her old playmate never goes i.e. her dad. I miss you dad. Yes, Father's Day is over but I want to celebrate this bond each and every day because he is precious.
Whenever I think of father's love, I am always reminded of the Kabuliwala story by Rabindranath Tagore.

Good one Sh..A father daughter bondage..heard of it so much but never had or will have that experience with both of mine being Sons.So much is heard of a mother Child relationship but not much on Father child relationship...As a Father ,I can assure you ,it is very deep, Seldom expressed ,as a mother can or does .

so touchy...loved it!!!

its so good to see when ppl talk abt father's 'love n affection' bcoz most of the time Its the 'Mother' who takes all the credit for 'Love n affection'.

nicely done.

Very touching.

I think a child is always active in a man too but he never admits. :)))

@ sush,
Hmmm...Thanks. The post is about father-daughter relationship/bond and not child-mother.

So true, a little girl is brought up by her father and then her hubby takes the reigns of caring and loving.

Beautiful read.

@ Compassion Unlimitted,
Thanks! You are right father-child relationship is equally deep though not much has been written on it.

Hmmm....I can understand your longing. Look at it optimistically and you shall experience that also coz you shall get two daughters as daughter-in-law, soon :))

If you still want to have a daughter then you can adopt me. I am willing to adopt you as my father :P

@ IRFANUDDIN,
Thanks! Ya, right. A father is as important as mother so we should value father's love and affection and make him feel special, too.

@ Womaninlove,
Thanks! Yes, Kabuliwala story is very close to my heart. Its my favourite since I had read it for the first time in school. I wanted to write on it regarding father's affection for his daughter and about the two fathers in the story. I always identified myself with the little mini.

@ A,
Thanks! Yes, you are absolutely right but you just did it :D
I had discovered it long back courtesy my Dad :))

Very touching...destiny takes us through memories....of renewing life with fragrance of love...in missing someone who remains precious forever...a long series of imagery pops up in thoughts...maybe, the girl misses her Father...maybe, the Father misses her doll...maybe, they miss each other even when both are present...maybe, they miss each other when they remain connected but away...may also be, they miss each other without knowing if she or he is still alive...
Destiny defines how rich still life remains in memorising those beautiful moments of togetherness...
May God bless you, my child !

so much in our words, they bring life, they give death...esp those of a father to their children...

Sh@s,

Read all current posts. KHALI Canvas was just too good. Parenting dreams, well it is difficult to have two dreams simultaneously but not impossible if you can manage. Liked the tag. Tribute to father is well written, specially as explained in footnote. Kabuliwala is a treasure in literature.

Take care

@ Compassion Unlimitted,
Thanks for your sweet reply. Sorry for my immature reply in my previous comment. It will be difficult to understand the extent of your longing, I guess, I can only imagine it.
